About Grundy Resiliency Project
The Grundy Economic Development Council (GEDC) and the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce were awarded a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant in Fall of 2022. These grants help nuclear host communities plan for and build more diverse, resilient economies. Grundy’s grant is being matched 20% by Grundy County giving our community a total of $600,000. North Central Council of Governments will assist as the grant administrator.
The grant focuses on regions with nuclear plants and provides funding to local entities to evaluate economic impacts, competitive diversification, decommissioning issues, and building community capacity.
Applying for the grant came to be after the GEDC and the Chamber worked diligently with our local legislators and taxing bodies to #savedresden. The #savedresden movement began in 2020 when it was announced Dresden Generating Station would be closing, an action that would have devastated our local economy. Through a grassroots effort to save jobs, homes and our quality of life in Grundy County, the community helped our local legislatures to pass SB 2048 saving our nuclear fleet.
The GEDC and the Chamber have taken the first steps toward planning for our future economy that needs to include more industrial opportunities to support our workforce, taxing bodies and quality of life. Please continue to explore this website to see the progress we are making through the grant process. The GEDC and Chamber are putting this grant to good use, building a strong economy for Grundy County and its residents.
